Have you ever had nail fungus? It probably wasn’t very good. It can make your nails look yellow, thick, and cracked. They may hurt you if you try to wear shoes.
Toenail fungus can be difficult to treat. And if you do not take care of it, it is more likely that it can lead to more serious infections.
The best thing you can do is learn to avoid holding a new case of it. It is not so difficult to keep the fungus away from your toes. Here’s what to do.
1. Keep your feet clean and dry.
Wash with soap and water daily. Wipe them very well afterward. Get in-between your toes, too. Clean, dry feet and nails are less likely to catch fungus.
2. Do not walk barefoot in public.
Molds like to grow in warm and humid places. It also spreads easily from person to person. That’s why it’s important to wear shower shoes or flip-flops near public pools, locker rooms, and showers.
3. Change your socks and shoes regularly.
Wear clean socks every day. Give your shoes a rest and wear different pairs regularly, too. If your feet get sweaty when walking or exercising, change your socks and shoes as soon as you get a chance.
4. Use appropriate footwear.
The fungus thrives when your feet are firmly tucked inside, hot shoes and socks. Make sure yours is not too comfortable and gives your feet a place to breathe. Choose items such as leather shoes. Look for socks made of synthetic fiber that absorb moisture from your feet better than cotton or wool. You will see this so-called fraud.
5. Cut your nails.
Cut them short and straight across. Make sure you do not weigh them to dig into the sides of your toe. Do not pick your nails or skin near them.
6. Use foot powder.
Sprinkle some after washing and dry your feet. Some people like cornstarch. But medicinal powder is a better choice. It will help protect you against mold, including the athlete’s foot.
7. Keep tools clean.
Clean and disinfect your nail clips, files, and scissors every time you use them. Rubbing alcohol should work. Do not share them with anyone else.
8. Skip nail polish if you can.
Wearing that or fake nails can sometimes trap moisture, creating a good environment for the defense antifungal to grow. It is possible to avoid toe fungus if you can live without polishing.
9. Choose a clean nail salon.
Want a pedicure? Look for a salon that is licensed in your region and looks good. Make sure they turn off all their tools after each use and before each new customer. Or you can bring your sterilized tools.
10. Use an anti-fungal cream.
If you have had nail fungus before, this may help to prevent it from returning. Apply over-the-counter or over-the-counter products on the toes and soles of your feet once or twice a week.
11. Get rid of old shoes and slippers.
Mold can live in them. Apply anti-fungal spray to your new shoes every morning before you slip them. Never share shoes or socks with other people.
12. Check your feet and toes regularly.
If you notice a change in nail color or texture, consult your doctor. This is your chance to catch the fungus early on. If you think you have another infection or fungus, such as an athlete’s foot, talk to your doctor or pharmacist about what to do. It can turn into toe mold, too, if you do not handle it.
