What is an erection test?
An erection test is a procedure a man can do on his own to determine if the cause of erectile dysfunction (ED) is physical or mental.
It is also known as a nocturnal penile tumescence (NPT) stamp test.
Why is an erection test done?
Tests are done to make sure you get an erection at night.
Men with normal physiological erectile function experience erectile dysfunction during normal sleep.
According to the University of California, San Francisco Medical Center, the average healthy adult male will have an average of three to five stops per night, lasting 30 to 60 minutes each.
Physical, emotional, or psychological problems can lead to ED.
There are different ways to do this. More reliable tests, such as NPT testing using RigiScan, are now available.
One loop surrounds the base of the penis, and the other is placed under the corona, the area of the penis in front of the glans penis.
Throughout the night, the machine repeatedly measures the amount of blood in your vagina (tumescence) and how well it can withstand bending or bending (stiffness).
This machine measures the shape of your penis as you watch or listen to sexually explicit material.
This may include viewing pornography, viewing slides and motion pictures, or listening to audio cassettes.
How to prepare for the test
You will need to purchase four to six postage stamps.
The stamp system doesn’t matter, but it should have dry glue on the back.
Stamps are a very simple method, but there are other methods.
If you do not have stamps, you can use a paper line. The strip of paper should be 1 inch wide and long enough to wrap around the penis slightly apart.
Avoid alcohol or any other chemical sleeping supplements two nights before the test.
This can prevent pride. You should also avoid caffeine to make sure you sleep well at night.
How an erection test is done
Change into boxer shorts or short underwear before going to bed.
Take enough stamps around the tip of your penis.
Transfer your scattered penis between the flies to your underwear.
Show one of the stamps on a roll and fold the stamps on your penis.
Wear stamps on the roll to ensure they remain in a safe place.
It should be thick enough for the stamps to separate if you have an erection.
Put your penis back in your shorts and go to sleep.
Do this for three nights in a row.
Check to see if the stamp roll is broken when you get up in the morning.
You may have had an erection in your sleep if the stamps were broken.
This may indicate that your penis is working properly.
After an erection self-test
This test only shows if you can be proud.
It will not explain why you have problems getting or keeping an erection.
Failure to have sexual intercourse can be psychologically natural, such as depression.
Make an appointment with your doctor if you have trouble getting or keeping an erection.
Your doctor can diagnose your depression or other mental disorders and recommend you a mental health professional.
What is the idea?
Talk to your doctor if you experience ED regularly.
Most men do not feel comfortable talking about this, but you should not feel embarrassed.
This is a very common condition, especially as you grow older.
Oral therapy and medication are the most common medications for treating ED.
Over time, many men have difficulty finding or maintaining a strong and lasting sexual arousal. There may be several reasons for this erectile dysfunction (ED), and it is usually temporary. But, even if the episode does not last long and the erectile function returns, it may be disturbing and embarrassing for men.
10 Simple But Important Things You Can Do To Help Prevent ED
At Westchester Health, we have many patients who experience ED for varying lengths of time, and we know how difficult it can be, not only for our patients but also for their partners.
Many of them want to know if there is anything they can do to postpone or prevent ED.
To share information on this important topic, we’ve compiled a list of 10 simple, self-paced steps you can take to avoid ED, including input from Healthbeat and Healthline.
10 ways to reverse or even prevent ED
1. Go every day
According to one study, just 30 minutes of daily walking reduced a man’s risk of ED by 41%.
2. Eat a healthy diet (small red meat)
In the NIH Massachusetts Male Aging Study, eating foods rich in natural foods such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and fish (with small red and minced meat and refined grains) reduces the risk of ED.
3. Monitor your vascular health
High blood pressure, high blood sugar, high cholesterol, and high triglycerides can damage the cardiovascular system, the brain, and those that lead to the penis.
Check with your doctor to find out if your vascular system – and thus your heart, brain, and penis – is working properly or you need to change your lifestyle and possibly take medication.
4. Be in shape and stay in shape
A trim waistline is very important in preventing ED.
A man with a 42-inch waist is 50% more likely to have an ED than one with a 32-inch waist.
Losing weight can help prevent or reverse ED, so make it your goal to gain and maintain a healthy weight.
Obesity raises the risk of vascular disease and diabetes, two major causes of ED.
5. Strengthen your pelvic floor
A firm pelvic floor helps to strengthen during erection and keeps blood from leaking out of the penis.
To strengthen this position, we recommend Kegel exercises for men.
6. Stop smoking
Non-smoking, or quitting smoking, plays a major role in preventing ED.
7. Reduce your alcohol intake
It has been shown that heavy drinkers often have ED.
8. Get enough sleep, and high quality
Lack of deep, calm sleep contributes to a man’s sexual performance.
In addition, studies show that men with sleep apnea (disturbed night breathing) improve their erectile function after using a respirator during sleep.
9. Change your bicycle seat
Bicycle seats put pressure on the arteries and veins in the pelvic area.
If you are a regular cyclist or long-distance cyclist, we recommend that you consider getting a seat specifically designed to reduce pressure on your perineum (between the anus and scrotum).
Some studies have linked cycling with ED, although more research is needed to confirm communication.
10. Increase sex times
Normal or normal sex can help you maintain sexual function and avoid ED.
One NIH study found that men who had sex less than once a week were twice as likely to develop ED at least once a week.
Don’t forget the aspect of mental health
Psychological factors such as work anxiety, relationship problems, depression, stress, and depression can all lead to ED, Healthline said.
Other ways to reduce the negative effects of stress and anxiety include meditation, yoga, and exercise.
It would be a good idea to see a professional therapist who can help you manage anxiety and depression, and medication may be another option.
Remember, you can be better
The important thing to remember is that ED is very common and not permanent.
In addition to a specialist, your urologist is your health care partner
At Westchester Health, we have a strong feeling that the urologist should be part of your overall healthcare system.
Even though urologic problems are serious topics to talk about, it is very important that you and your urologist feel comfortable with each other and can discuss any ongoing problems with you.
Together, you can achieve the very best quality of life.
